Here is Joey Landreth doing his very cool thing. Remember he tunes to low tune open tuning. It’s like open E only down a few steps. Enjoy
Hey Jeff – At the risk of coming off as ‘that guy’, it looks to me like there is a typo in the Parallel Keys reference sheet. The sheet shows the b6 of C Natural Minor as Ab7 but, if I’m not mistaken, that should be an Abmaj7.
Hey Josh, no such thing as that guy when it comes to proper corrections! Thanks for that catch! I’ll tweak it and update the link ASAP.
Hi John, good catch. It’s been fixed, but I might also suggest that Ab7 is a very good viable sound for a substitute chord in the key of C major particularly on its way to G7. The long story is that Ab7 acts as V of G7 and Abmaj7 can act as iv minor. Lots of cool sounds for sure, thank for the good spot.

Hi everyone,
Here’s a video I did in 2024 of one of my all time favourites; Autumn Leaves. I have developed tendonitis in my left wrist and thumb lately which has somewhat curtailed my guitar playing, and hope to be playing more when that settles down2 CommentsI’ve been working my way through the Harmonic Fluency pathway and I’m struggling with the diminished chord material because I can’t quickly access the inversions. Is there any material Tim’s published here that you guys can recommend that focuses specifically on inversions?
2 CommentsIf you mean the inversions to the different chord types (like maj7 , min7, m7b5 )then there is a lesson here https://timsguitarworkshop.com/courses/modern-harmony-masterclass/. ……the first part will keep you busy for a while. Hope this helps.
Adding on to Erik’s recommendation there’s also the Triads Course: (https://timsguitarworkshop.com/courses/triads-the-complete-guide/). Tim works through major and minor scales in root, first, and second inversions.
The Harmony 101 course touches on inversions as well.
