A few years of my adult playing was centered around Hawaiian music – `ukulele, slack key, etc. Some of the most popular American music of the 30s and 40s was Hawaiian jazz/pop. Here’s a piece I did many years ago.

I got into slack key about 20 yrs ago, it was a great way to branch out from some of the “usual” stuff in Open G, etc. Spent about 10 days in Kauai and got to see a few very intimate concerts by Doug McMaster. I really should dig out my Keola Beamer book and give the tunes a go. Thanks for the post!!
Thank you. Keola is a dear friend and my first teacher. Doug is a masterful player and nice guy. Yes, Keola has some beautiful arrangements in his book, as does Ozzie Kotani. It’s such such relaxing and beautiful music. Not to mention, it’s not a bad view when you’re backing up hula dancers on a beach at sunset.
It’s a genre of Hawaiian music that has a cloudy history. Suffice it to say it’s indigenous folk music based on “open tunings”. It’s mostly diatonic and happy and was written based on Hawaiian Chants. This Wiki may help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slack-key_guitar

beautiful Dave, It reminds me a bit of a lovely song called If I Had You. your feel is very nice and it seems much of the technique can be easily applied toa standard as well. thank you for sharing
