• Making Videos:

I’d like to get a handle on what you guys are using for your videos. I the past I’ve used my laptop camera with a mic-ed cabinet or direct. This was either using QuickTime or iMovie. I was never happy with the results.

I’m thinking about using my Focusrite 414 (digital interface) with my iPhone or iPad.

    Any thoughts that…Read More

    • I make them on my YouTube channel.

      • Hey Steve. Thanks. My question is less about the recording app and more about the the input to get it there. What is the signal path? Mics, Direct, Camera etc. for a live, unedited performance.

        • The camera on my laptop. I just click on “go Live” and it records the video. It’s not as good as when I had a good video camera on a tripod, but I don’t care, and it is easier. I haven’t quite figured out the editing process to cut the beginning and end. I can record a video with Facebook too, but that, I think, is more confusing.

    • I’d like to hear more about this as well (microphones, etc). I’m not looking for pro recording stuff, just something a notch above the mic on my iPhone.

    • On iMac……1. I load the backingtrack in Garageband and set a channel for the guitar so that I can record into it. 2. I start Quicktime …set it to a new film and enable it to record it with the computer mic. 3. Recording: I start Quicktime ……while it’s recording I bring garageband to the front and record my guitar into the setup channel. 4. after…Read More

      • Yes, Eric, trial and error it is. I’ve done the same thing with Logic (GarbageBand on steroids). That synchronizing step is a true pita. Thank you for the input.

    • I use a Rhode NT1 into a Focusrite Scarlett recorded into GarageBand on iPad then video camera at same time and sync them in iMovie ..disabling the video audio

    • I turn on my phone, turn the camera on, and record. I do some minor editing, usually trimming, noise reduction, and light filter, then I post to Facebook, Instagram, and here. Obviously, very low production quality but whatever.

  • Hi,
I know Tim talks about the Altered scale in the Blues Impro…but is there a video on strickly using the Altered scale and Melodic Minor scale as well.
    Thanks
    Ken

  • My ultimate goal with all this jazz is to be able to jam with people and have fun while doing that. My improvisation skill is still very basic, but I’m trying to push myself.
So… I signed up for a jam. There were 5 pieces to play in. I consider one of them a relative success, the rest didn’t go too well. Quite a nerve wrecking experience, I…Read More
