If the pick up is suspended from the Pick guard , which I think it is in this case, that small piece of foam just keeps the pick up stable. Doesn’t really put much pressure on the top. It certainly doesn’t dampen the top it at all. It’s just a matter of helping the pick up be stable rather than dangling in space.
