The most useful way is to just memorize the 5 of every key. Then no counting is needed. Another way that will help is to be able to find the root of the V7 chord quickly by seeing it as an interval in the fingerboard. Yes, thank you. Very helpful. I have to laugh at myself because I’ve spent the last month learning interval shapes, so I did already know the *shape* of a 5th, but somehow the information got compartmentalized. I forgot that the answer to my question is sitting in my lap, and all I have to do is look at the fretboard as my “cheat sheet.”
