5 CommentsVery nice Joe. Regarding tempo, i think it might be a good arrangement strategy to play it thru once with at a loose ballad tempo and really let the melody sing then kick into this tempo and swing it with the bass line .

TImThank you for the feedback, it is very helpful! I will experiment with that approach, and maybe add a half or whole chorus of improv the second time through. I think my biggest thing right now is I am starting to have a good number of tunes racked up, but need to flesh out the arrangements so they amount to more than 2 min of music each! Haha
That’s it! If you’re like me there’s no way to memorize 200 two minute arrangements. You gotta have a basic template and then improvise in all the various ways, rhythmic variations, different tempi, modulations medleys etc. it makes the gig a lot more fun.
